The Birth of Darth Vader

The famous character Darth Vader in Star Wars was not born as is.

He was found in the desert planet of Tatooine when he was a little boy Anakin. He was trained by Obi-Wan Kanobi and became a fine Jedi Knight. He fell in love with Padmé, the Queen and then Senator of Naboo. They married and Padmé got pregnant. They were happy but the happiness also increased their fear to lose it, especially after Anakin, who possessed the psychic power, had a vision of Padmé’s death in the upcoming child birth.

For Anakin, Padmé was everything. His strong wish to save his wife made him trapped by the claver Palpatine, who was in fact the Sith Lord Darth Sidious. Eventually Anakin became Darth Sidious’ apprentice and got the name Darth Vader.

The Star Wars III covers Anakin’s agony quite well. Even though he was trained as a Jedi Knight, he hadn’t been able to resolve the strong anger toward the one who killed his beloved mother, and possibly toward himself who couldn’t protect her. Palpatine used his anger and shook Anakin’s trust to the Jedi and the Republic that his wife Padmé had a faith in.

Realizing what was going on, Padmé, who strongly believed in the liberty and democracy, begged Anakin to quit what he was into and flee with her. In reply Anakin told Padmé in this way they could have ultimate power and rule the galaxy. That broke Padmé’s heart. When he told her that he didn’t want to lose her, she replied that he had already lost her.

Anakin didn’t understand Padmé.

He loved and wanted her very much. He couldn’t stand losing her. For him, her staying alive was the most priority but how wasn’t. Under the influence of the dark side, he even started becoming greedy for power.

Padmé, on the other hand, was justice. She just wished to be with the ones she loved peacefully. She wouldn’t be able to live happily if the life was on the top of betrayal and slaughter. She wished Anakin would wake up and drop his greed, but he didn’t. Instead, he thought Padmé betrayed him.

By getting someone else’s agreement, we all feel safe and comfortable. We feel we are okay. When someone does it to you consistently, you naturally feel good about her. Often it develops into a special relationship.

To be a Jedi Master, however, you need to go beyond this comfort. You shouldn’t rely on your beloved one’s support in the end. Although it can be a great support to you, the bottom line is that it has to be you who believe in what’s true to you. When you are sure about your faith, you don’t need to react with someone else’s response, either negative or positive.

Unfortunately Anakin was not trained to this level yet so that Padmé’s disagreement made him furious. Subsequently, blinded with his rage, he couldn’t see what Padmé really was.

When you love someone, often you insist what is valuable to you to the beloved one. Despite your excitement he doesn’t always see as much value as you do. When you don’t get an expected reaction such as appreciation, agreement or support, you get upset.

You want to be recognized and accepted, so is your beloved one. He wants to be recognized as him, not the copy of you. He appreciates your respect instead of rejection.

Love is not always easy and we learn a lot from it.
