Game Over

A few days ago a traumatic incident happened in my son’s life.

He lost everything. Well, he did in the video game called Minecraft he was playing.

The player crates many things ‘mining’ the material in the virtual world. As you progress your level goes up. You build many things such as a house and garden, grow food and raise animals. It’s pretty neat.

So, my son was in level 17. And with some reason, it went poof! Disappeared.

He was shocked and in tears. We were all sorry for him.

This morning the memory came back to him. He started talking what he had lost and eventually got so emotional.

With a big hug, both my husband and I told him the same thing.

It happens in the real life unfortunately.

And when it happens, think what you can do with what you have rather than what you used to have.

Since you have learned so much, now you can rebuild it faster.

It is a serious damage if you lose everything especially when you made a lot of effort to achieve it. His level 17 world in the game was a great achievement for the 8 years old boy. He was very proud of it.

Now it’s gone. I can feel his pain. It must be very, very upsetting.

Nevertheless, what he can do is not only being sad about this unfortunate incident.

Even though he lost what he achieved, his knowledge and skills he gained in the process remain there. He can use them when he tries next time. He hasn’t lost ‘everything’ – his experience will be never lost.

I am actually grateful that he had this opportunity in this stage of his life. Never thought but this is a positive influence of a virtual game. You can have a traumatic experience like losing everything without really losing actual matters. By facing to the situation, you can learn how to focus on present rather than past.

Once it’s gone, it’s gone. “Now what?” is the attitude.

You don’t have what you don’t no matter how much you cry for. You need to come up with the idea to do something with what you have. You have your body and mind. You have the experiences, knowledge and skills. You have the personality. Use them!

As long as you have this mentality, game will never be over.

In case you don’t know what Minecrat is, here is one of my videos I took the other day.

Have fun!
